Component Overview

This Article Applies to:

There are many components that come along with AVG Business Antivirus, both in the baseline Antivirus and in the additional versions.

Components

  • File Shield: real-time file scanner
  • Web Shield: web protection
  • Email Shield: email protection
  • Behavior Shield: behavioral/advanced malware/ransomware detection
  • Remote Access Shield: block unwanted remote connections
  • Enhanced Firewall: network traffic monitoring/blocking
  • Exchange: virus scanning for Exchange
  • Sharepoint: virus scanning for SharePoint
  • VPN (Cloud Console) : AVG VPN service
  • Data Shredder: irreversibly erase data
  • Password Protection: store and sync passwords

Mobile-Only Components

  • File Scanner: virus scanning for mobile devices
  • Photo Vault: password protect and encrypt photo access
  • Identity Protection: warn user of potential password leaks
  • App Lock: password protect sensitive apps
  • Anti-Theft: protect mobile data, help recover a lost device
    • Camera Trap (part of Anti-Theft): activate camera to secretly photograph a potential thief
    • Last Known Location (part of Anti-Theft): record device's last known location
    • SIM Security (part of Anti-Theft): lock device when SIM card is changed
  • Call Blocker: block all calls from phone numbers on Blacklist
  • Power Save: adjust settings to decrease battery consumption
  • Boost RAM: close apps running in the background
  • Clean Junk: safely free space on device
  • Wi-Fi Speed Test: check connected Wi-Fi network download/upload speed
  • Wi-Fi Security: check connected Wi-Fi network for security issues
  • App Insights: set data usage limit and alert when nearing limit
  • VPN Standalone App: Avast phone traffic VPN service

Enabling and Disabling Components

Nearly all the shields and tools available in AVG Business Antivirus can be enabled or disabled in the policy. This is especially useful if you are trying to install only a few of the components on a server, or just keeping your number of tools to a minimum. Some tools, however, can only be installed or uninstalled entirely.

Cloud Console

  1. In the policy you are configuring on the Cloud Console, select the Service Settings tab
  2. Beside the components you want to alter, do one of the following:
    • To enable the component, click On
    • To disable the component, click Off

On-Premise Console

  1. In the policy you are configuring, select the Active Protection tab
  2. Select the relevant OS tab (Windows Workstation, Windows Server)
  3. Beside the components you want to alter, do one of the following:
    • To enable the component, move the slider to On
    • To disable the component, move the slider to Off

Installing and Uninstalling Components

Most Active Protection features are installed with AVG Business Antivirus, but these components can be uninstalled and reinstalled as needed via the policy.

Cloud Console

  1. In the policy you are configuring on the Cloud Console, select the Service Settings tab
  2. Beside the components you want to alter, do one of the following:
    • If the component is not yet installed, click On. Then click Install & Enable
    • If the component is already installed, click the trash can to uninstall. Then click Confirm

On-Premise Console

  1. In the policy you are configuring, select the Active Protection tab
  2. Select the relevant OS tab (Windows Workstation, Windows Server)
  3. Beside the components you want to alter, do one of the following:
    • If the component is not yet installed, click Install this component. Then click I understand, install component
    • If the component is already installed, click the More button beside the component, then click Uninstall this component. Then click I understand, uninstall component

You can access additional configuration options for each Active Protection component by clicking Customize beside the component slider.
