SharePoint Protection

This Article Applies to:

  • AVG Business Cloud Console

The SharePoint component for Windows Servers is specifically meant to protect your SharePoint Server from threats without interfering in its function. It is a security plugin that you install on your SharePoint Server. The component will scan all uploaded and downloaded files to help prevent malicious documents from infecting your business data, and it can help block ransomware attacks. If the plugin discovers a harmful document, it will quarantine it and alert the user.

Supported SharePoint Servers

Microsoft SharePoint Server versions 2010 and later are supported.

Prerequisites

For SharePoint Server to be detected by AVG Business Antivirus and the plugin installed, it should be installed prior to installing Antivirus. If it is installed afterward, the SharePoint component would need to be added manually.

Recommended Antivirus Components

When installing servers in a business environment, please follow our guidelines in Recommended Components for Servers.

Configuring SharePoint Protection

To access SharePoint settings:

  1. Open the Policies page
  2. Click the desired policy to open its Detail drawer
  3. Click the Settings tab, then Antivirus
  4. Under Data Protection, expand the SharePoint section

The available configuration options are grouped as follows:

  • Resident task settings
  • Packers

Resident Task Settings

Here, you can define how SharePoint handles an uncleanable object. It can either deny access to or replace the object with a warning.

Any malicious activity detected will be written to the Windows Event Log - you can select several logging options:

  • Low: Errors and viruses only
  • Normal: Warning, errors, and viruses
  • High: For more detail in AVG logs
  • Maximum: For the max detail in AVG logs

Packers

These settings allow you to define which archive (packer) formats should try to extract during the scanning process (unpacked files can be better analyzed for malware). Original archives remain intact while processed by the SharePoint component. You can choose to use either all packer formats or just the ones you select from the list. By default, all packers are used.
